नाम एवं पर्याय (Synonyms):
बला: बला, वाट्यालिका, वाट्या और वाट्यालका—ये सभी साधारण बला के नाम हैं।
महाबला: महाबला, पीतपुष्पा (पीले फूलों वाली) और सहदेवी—ये महाबला के नाम माने गए हैं।
अतिबला (और नागबला): इसके बाद एक अन्य प्रकार 'अतिबला' है जिसे ऋष्यप्रोक्ता और कंकतिका भी कहा जाता है। (इसी प्रसंग में 'गांगेरुकी' का भी उल्लेख है, जिसे आयुर्वेद में प्रायः चौथी बला यानी नागबला माना जाता है)।
बला के औषधीय प्रयोग (Properties of Bala): बला की जड़ की छाल (मूल-त्वचा) के चूर्ण को दूध और शक्कर (मिश्री) के साथ पीने से यह मूत्रातिसार (बार-बार पेशाब आने की समस्या / Polyuria) को दूर करता है। यह प्रत्यक्ष देखा हुआ प्रयोग है, इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है।
महाबला के औषधीय प्रयोग (Properties of Mahabala): महाबला मूत्रकृच्छ्र (पेशाब में होने वाली जलन या कठिनाई / Dysuria) को हरती है तथा यह वात का अनुलोमन (शरीर में वायु को सही दिशा में ले जाने वाली) करने वाली होती है।
अतिबला के औषधीय प्रयोग (Properties of Atibala): अतिबला को दूध (पयसा) और मिश्री/शक्कर (सितया) के साथ समान मात्रा में लेने पर यह मेह (प्रमेह, मूत्र विकारों या डायबिटीज) को पूरी तरह नष्ट कर देती है।

Botanical Synonyms:
Bala: Bala, Vatyalika, Vatya, and Vatyalaka are the synonyms of the standard Bala.
Mahabala: Mahabala, Peetapushpa (yellow-flowered), and Sahadevi are the names remembered for Mahabala.
Atibala (and Nagabala): Then there is another variety known as Atibala, which is also called Rishyaprokta and Kankatika. (The text also lists Gangeruki, which traditionally refers to the fourth type, Nagabala).
Therapeutic Actions of Bala: Drinking the powder of the root bark of Bala mixed with milk and sugar successfully cures Mutratisara (excessive urination / polyuria). This is a directly observed and proven fact; there is absolutely no doubt about it.
Therapeutic Actions of Mahabala: Mahabala effectively cures (dysuria / difficulty and burning during urination) and acts as a (carminative / facilitates the healthy downward movement of Vata dosha).
Therapeutic Actions of Atibala: Atibala, when consumed along with milk and sugar/rock candy , successfully eradicates Meha (urinary disorders / diabetes / obstinate urinary conditions).
