नाम एवं पर्याय: ऐन्द्री, इन्द्रवारुणी, चित्रा, गवाक्षी, गवादिनी और वारुणी - ये इसके विभिन्न नाम हैं। इसकी दूसरी प्रजाति (परा) को विशाला, महाफला, श्वेतपुष्पा (सफेद फूलों वाली), मृगाक्षी, मृगैर्वारु और मृगादनी कहा जाता है।
गुण और प्रभाव: दोनों प्रकार की इन्द्रवारुणी स्वाद में कड़वी होती हैं। पचने के बाद इनका विपाक तीखा होता है। ये मल को सरकाने वाली और पचने में हल्की होती हैं। इनकी तासीर गर्म होती है।
रोगनाशक क्षमता (उपयोग): ये कामला (पीलिया), पित्त एवं कफ के दोषों, प्लीहा (तिल्ली/स्प्लीन के रोग) और उदर रोगों (पेट की बीमारियों) का नाश करने वाली हैं।
इसके अतिरिक्त, ये दमा , खांसी , कुष्ठ , गुल्म , ग्रन्थि (गांठ) और घावों को नष्ट करने वाली हैं।
यह प्रमेह (मूत्र रोग), अवरुद्ध या मृत भ्रूण को निकालने, रक्त विकारों, गले की गांठों के रोग और जहर को भी पूरी तरह नष्ट करती हैं।

Synonyms: It is known by the names Aindri, Indravaruni, Chitra, Gavakshi, Gavadini, and Varuni. Its second variety (para) is known as Vishala, Mahaphala, Shvetapushpa (having white flowers), Mrigakshi, Mrigairvaru, and Mrigadani.
Properties: Both varieties of Gavadini (Indravaruni) are bitter in taste and yield a pungent taste after digestion . They act as laxatives/purgatives , are light to digest , and are hot in potency .
Therapeutic Indications: They are highly effective in curing jaundice , pacifying the Pitta and Kapha doshas, and treating spleen disorders and abdominal diseases .
