नाम एवं लिंग: इसे स्त्रीलिंग में 'निम्बू' तथा नपुंसकलिंग में 'निम्बुक' या 'निम्बूक' कहा गया है।
सामान्य गुण और प्रभाव: नींबू स्वाद में खट्टा , वात दोष को नष्ट करने वाला, जठराग्नि को प्रदीप्त करने वाला , भोजन को पचाने वाला (पाचन) और पचने में हल्का होता है।
विशिष्ट गुण: नींबू कीड़ों का नाश करने वाला, तीक्ष्ण, खट्टा और उदर रोगों/जकड़न (उदरग्रह) को दूर करने वाला होता है।
रोगनाशक क्षमता एवं उपयोग: यह वात, पित्त और कफ के कारण होने वाले शूल में हितकारी है तथा नष्ट हो चुकी रुचि या स्वाद को पुनः उत्पन्न करने में अत्यंत श्रेष्ठ है।
मुनियों का कथन: मुनियों का कहना है कि त्रिदोष के प्रकोप, अग्नि के क्षय (मंदाग्नि), वात रोगों से पीड़ित, विष से व्याकुल, मंदाग्नि, कब्ज और हैजा के रोगियों को नींबू देना चाहिए।

Specific Properties: Lime destroys clusters of worms , is sharp , sour, and cures abdominal obstruction/disorders .
Therapeutic Indications and Usage: It is beneficial for colic/pain caused by Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, and is supreme in restoring lost taste or appetite .
Sages' Directives: The sages state that lime should be administered to those afflicted by the aggravation of the three doshas, depletion of the digestive fire, Vata disorders, distress from poison, sluggish digestion , constipation and cholera/gastroenteritis .
