नाम एवं पर्याय: वृक्षाम्ल, तिन्तिडीक, चुक्र और अम्लवृक्षक — ये सभी कोकम के विभिन्न नाम (पर्याय) हैं।
कच्चे कोकम के गुण (आमम्): कच्चा कोकम स्वाद में खट्टा , तासीर में गर्म और वात दोष का नाश करने वाला होता है। परन्तु यह कफ और पित्त दोष को बढ़ाने वाला होता है
पके कोकम के गुण (पक्वन्तु): पका हुआ कोकम पचने में भारी , मल को बांधने वाला (संग्राहि), स्वाद में तीखा और कसैला तथा पचने में हल्का होता है।
कर्म (कार्य): यह स्वाद में खट्टा, तासीर में गर्म , भोजन में रुचि उत्पन्न करने वाला , रूखा , जठराग्नि को प्रदीप्त करने वाला (दीपनं) तथा कफ और वात दोष को हरने वाला होता है।
रोगनाशक क्षमता: यह प्यास , बवासीर , संग्रहणी (IBS / मल बंधकर न आना), गुल्म (पेट का गोला/ट्यूमर), शूल (पेट दर्द/ऐंठन), हृदय रोगों (हृद्रोग) और कृमि/कीड़ों (जन्तु) को पूरी तरह जीतने या नष्ट करने वाला (जित्) होता है।

Properties of Unripe Kokum (Aamam): Unripe Kokum is sour in taste, hot in potency, and effectively pacifies the Vata dosha . However, it aggravates both Kapha and Pitta doshas .
Properties of Ripe Kokum (Pakvantu): The fully ripe fruit is heavy to digest , acts as an astringent or bowel-binding agent ,is pungent and astringent in taste, and becomes light to digest .
Actions: It remains sour and hot in potency , enhances appetite and taste , is dry in nature , kindles the digestive fire and successfully pacifies the Kapha and Vata doshas .
Therapeutic Indications: It effectively cures and eradicates excessive thirst , hemorrhoids/piles , malabsorption syndrome/IBS , abdominal tumors/lumps , colicky pain , heart diseases and parasitic worms .
