नाम और भेद: यष्टीमधु, यष्टीमधुक और क्लीतक—ये मुलेठी के नाम हैं। जो जल में उत्पन्न होती है, उसे अन्य प्रकार का क्लीतनक अर्थात् 'मधूलिका' कहा जाता है।
गुण: यष्टी (मुलेठी) शीतल , पचने में भारी और स्वाद में मधुर (मीठी) होती है।
शारीरिक प्रभाव: यह आँखों के लिए हितकारी , बलवर्धक (ताकत देने वाली), त्वचा का रंग निखारने वाली , अत्यंत स्निग्ध (चिकनाई युक्त), शुक्रवर्धक (वीर्य बढ़ाने वाली), बालों के लिए लाभकारी (केश्य) और स्वर (आवाज़) को उत्तम करने वाली है।
