अब शिंशपा (शीशम) के विषय में:
शीशम पिच्छिल (लसदार), श्यामा (काले रंग वाली), काले सार (कठोर मध्य भाग) वाली और गुरु (पचने में भारी) होती है। इसी की जो कपिल (भूरे) रंग की प्रजाति है, उसे मुनियों ने 'भस्मगर्भा' कहा है।
शीशम रस में कटु (तीखी), तिक्त (कड़वी) और कषाय (कसैली) होती है; तथा यह शोष (सूखा रोग) को हरने वाली है। यह उष्णवीर्य (गर्म तासीर वाली) होती है और मेद (चर्बी), कुष्ठ (कोढ़), सफेद दाग , वमन (उल्टी) तथा कृमि (कीड़ों) का नाश करती है।
यह बस्तिरुक् (मूत्राशय की पीड़ा), व्रण (घाव), दाह (जलन), रक्त विकार और कफ को दूर करने वाली तथा गर्भपातिनी (गर्भ को गिराने वाली) होती है।
Now regarding Shinshapa [Sheesham]:
Sheesham is slimy , dark in color has black heartwood and is heavy to digest . Its brown variety is referred to as 'bhasmagarbha' by the sages.
Sheesham is pungent , bitter and astringent in taste, and it cures emaciation. It is hot in potency and eliminates excess fat, skin diseases, leucoderma, vomiting, and parasitic worms.
It cures pain and diseases of the urinary bladder, ulcers/wounds, burning sensation, blood disorders, and kapha , and it acts as an abortifacient (causes miscarriage).
